Bye 2023 - Hello 2024
Trip report
Hello 2024 New Year (Kulin) 30th Dec – 1st Jan 2024
Everyone made their own way to Kulin with a few making the trip early. We arrived lunchtime Saturday and were busy setting up the camper when a local lady came up to us. She was a little concerned that she had seen a snake wriggle out of the bush near the camp site and cross the road. Shortly after a local came by to show us the snake on his shovel. It was an over a metre long dugite.
After lunch everyone headed to the local pools which resulted in some gasps from the icy cold water. Apparently, it had been a cool start to summer. A few tried the ice-cream but it wasn’t as good as the ones from Michael’s freezer!
In the evening we all joined together for a meal at the local pub and an early celebration of Bob’s birthday. We had a great meal and returned to the caravan park to relax together.
New Year's Eve saw Sandra leave us sadly as she had hurt her wrist in a fall before we arrived. Everyone helped her pack and sort the awning which was great to see.
Alex and us headed out to the tin horse highway where Thomas had fun with the camera catching some great shots. Then we continued on and climbed up on the Jilakin Rock to see the view of the lake and the Kulin racetrack. From there we meandered along backroads past the lake and Snake rock back to camp.
In the evening, we all came together to celebrate New Year ’s Eve with a great feast of shared food, birthday cake and merriment. Two other campers joined us and Thomas had a ball on their electric scooter. Unfortunately most of us didn’t make midnight with only the oldest members seeing in the New Year awake.
Monday saw most of us packing and heading back to Perth with a few extending their stay an extra night.
Thank you to all who came and laughed with us.
