MUNDARING POWERLINES

TRIP REPORT - JULY 2016

After the wet weather we experienced on Saturday. I was expecting the powerlines to be wet, boggy and VERY busy.

We met at the usual place in Kelmscott and headed to the Mundaring Weir Hotel to pick up some northern suburb members and visitors via Brookton Highway and Ashendon Road.

After meeting with the extra attendees, we headed out to the powerlines where we came across a couple of groups of 4WDs airing down near the water tanks. We headed down the track a few hundred metres to do our airing down.

We then headed along the powerlines but were soon held up by Peter’s Colly not Hold’n together! Turns out the nut holding the bottom of one of his shock absorbers came loose and fell off (cable ties to the rescue).

We soon came across a water crossing where we managed to get some great photos. Thanks to one of our visitors, Janine, for some of those photos which are included in this report.

The rest of the trip was relatively uneventful. Everyone had the choice to tackle the hard or easier options on most of the obstacles with no real issues.

The most interesting incident occurred after we had passed the last major obstacle and were heading to the end of the track to pump up our tyres. Rob decided that one of the ’puddles’ looked okay, so decided to drive through it. Problem was the ruts were a bit too deep and he bottomed out with the water level about 20cm above the bottom of his doors.

We quickly joined a couple of straps together to pull him out but not quick enough to stop Rob and his passengers getting wet feet (and backsides).

We headed out to pump up tyres and then set out for home.

Thanks to all who came along.

Andrew
