Lake Norring Trip Report

At s notice I had the cancel the Goldfields trip and was looking for a place to camp for the long weekend and, thanks to a conversation I had with Michael S, Lake Norring was suggested.
Having never been there before I was a bit unsure what to expect but what a great place it turned out to be.
The convoy met on Saturday morning in Kelmscott. We had an uneventful trip down to Lake Norring where we met with George and Annice who had arrived only 10 minutes before us. We found a great flat area to camp and quickly settled down for the weekend.
We quickly discover that a birds had a nest with 4 babies in is also sharing the same area as us.
Saturday was spent relaxing by the water with Thomas spending hours paddling his kayak in the lake. It was a bit breezy on the water but we were lucky that the natural environment protected the cam from the wind.
Sunday saw us heading out firstly around the lake to have a look at some alternative camp sites. There are three areas that are available for camping but I think we were in the best one.
Onto Wagin and then to Dumbleyung and its lake. We were able to have a look at a replica of the Bluebird, the boat that broke the water speed record in 1967 and some interesting film footage and memorabilia of the event. It was a great experience.
Sunday afternoon was spent gathering some wood for the night and relaxing.
On Monday morning we headed back to Perth via Narrogin and Wandering trying to keep away from the holiday traffic on Albany Highway. A quick stop was had in Narrogin to find a bakery for lunch.
In Wandering we stopped to have a walk around a nature trail the town that had a lot of information about how the town was founded and by whom. It was very interesting and well worth the stop.
