Koorda Drive-in Trip Report

28-29 August 2022

After a hot pie and drink from the Bakers Hill pie shop, the convoy, all 2 of us, headed out to Koorda. With the Dowerin Field Day having just finished, and it being the weekend for some local sporting finals, there was a bit more traffic than you would normally see.

Arriving at Koorda we were surprised to see that the Shire have been upgrading the caravan park. There were new ablutions set up on site that were very flash. A bit of landscaping was still required but it will be looking nice.
A number of vehicles from other clubs had already arrived by the time we got there. It was great5 to catch up with familiar faces and meet some new ones

After setting up we went for a bit of a walk around town to see the sights. There is an amazing little community garden and some interesting old buildings you can look at.
After lunch Louise was itching to try out her new drone so we made our way to the local sports oval that offered her plenty of open space to practice flying.

More vehicles rolled in over the afternoon. We were told during the afternoon that due to the finals being held in the distract that there was a lack of volunteers to fully run the canteen at the drive-in so I had to sort out some dinner from the few meagre things I had in the car.

As the sun started going down we headed the short drive to the Drive-in. Association and Make Tracks banners were being proudly displayed as we entered the driveway and gave donations to the RFDS. Many thanks to Make Tracks for sponsoring our entry fee for the night.

35 vehicles, representing about 5 clubs, attended the night. We were going to be entertained by two movies, Rams and American Graffiti. Unfortunately for Thomas he was the only kid who attended (I am sure the average age of everyone attending was well over 50) so there was none of the usual kids playing while the adults sat in the car.
I am sure that there were a few people who managed to sleep through at least part of a movie as they didn’t get their nanna nap during the day.

On Sunday we made our way back home via Wyalkatchem, Cunderdin, Quairading and Beverley admiring the brilliant yellow of the flowering canola crops.
