Lake Indoon/Sandy Cape Weekend
Trip Report
24th - 26th May 2019
This was an unusual trip start as we left Gingers Roadhouse at 6.30 pm with a three hour drive ahead of us. 6 vehicles, 4 members and 2 visitors, headed up the Brand Highway to our overnight campsite at Lake Indoon which is just east of Eneabba. It was an uneventful trip although i am not sure how the echidna managed to get across the busy highway without being squashed.
We arrived at the campsite about 9.15pm. Winfred, not wanting to use his brakes found the softest bit of sand in the area to halt his progress (forward or backwards) so just stopped where he was and set up camp, recovery could wait until the morning. Everyone soon set up their camps and we were soon sitting around enjoying a few quiet bevvies and a chat.
Waking up we found that the lake was dry and the morning crisp and clear. As we had arrived at camp late we had a relaxing morning a left camp just before 10 am. After a short trip on the black stuff we headed into Bee Keepers reserve on our way to the Stockyard Gully caves. Winfred again had a bit of trouble in the sand but was again able to self recover using his recovery trax.
After arriving at the caves we all headed out for a little walk through and around the caves. For a few people it was the first time they had visited the area and they quite enjoyed the experience. After an early lunch we headed down Cockleshell Gully Road and then onto the Greenhead road. Adam left us here as he had an event to attend in Perth on Saturday night.
The rest of the convoy headed to Sandy Cape. After paying our fees we found an area for us all to camp and set up. Some explored the area on foot (one crazy kid decided swimming was a good thing to do) whilst others chose to chill and relax.
The evening saw most of us all enjoying the campfire with one couple noticeably not returning from dinner. I wonder what they got up to. In the morning we went for a drive down to North Head to look at the old radar bunkers and the memorial to a shark attach victim while the sun dried out our gear.
We returned to pack up and head back to Perth. Tony & Amanda stayed at Sandy for another couple of hour. We headed off to Jurien Bay for an ice cream and fuel stop then back to Perth.
Thank you to everyone who came on the trip
