Buffalo Beach and Beyond
Trip Report
It was shaping up to be a warm day so what better place to spend it than on the beach. 14 members and visitors assembled at the meeting place in Oakford.
After a brief driver meeting we headed towards Buffalo Beach. On the way we collected 4 more vehicles at the Caltex in South Yunderup and continued the uneventful trip down towards Australind.
Due to the number of vehicles we went to the day use area at the Belvidere campsite to let down our tyres so that we would not block any of the beach access roads.
Tyres down we headed out to the beach and then south to the entrance to the Leschenault Inlet. I understand that a visitor or two may have forgotten to engage 4wd as they got onto the beach.
Arriving at our piece of the beach at about 10.00 we decided that we would plan to leave about 12.30 and head up to Biningup. Everyone had a great time on the beach, swimming, chatting and playing cricket.
We sat there watching the dolphins playing out in front of us. A few people were lucky enough to have a few dolphins come and visit them right at the waters edge. This is the stuff you can’t plan but it certainly was a thrill for them.
After lunch we headed up to Biningup were we had to pump up out tyres as we had to head out onto the Forrest Highway to bypass Myalup and head to Preston Beach. At Biningup some members and visitors left the convoy to head back home.
At Preston we all aired down again and headed to Tims Thickett. The beach was much softer here with a few more challenging sections to negotiate. The most excitement came from Chris Ellis forgetting to swap tanks and running out of fuel.
We negotiated the weed bank that has formed south of White Hills and made our way towards Tims.
Although the tide was coming in we all successfully negotiated our way around the rocks.
We headed out to the main carpark to air up at about 4.00. As soon as we left the beach you could feel the temperature rising.
From here we all headed home with some stopping for ice creams in Falcon.
Thank you to everyone who came along. It was great to hear everyone’s positive thoughts on this new area and I am sure we will be returning there in the future.
