Clean Up Australia Day 4 – 6 March
Trip Report
With what was looking like a fantastic weekend ahead, we left Kelmscott and headed to Ledge Point. Traffic wasn’t bad as most people who would have gone away for the long weekend would have travelled on Friday.
We took a couple of back roads to beat a small lot heavy traffic caused by a wide load and ended up coming out on Indian Ocean Drive just south of the Ledge Point turnoff. After airing down in the carpark we headed down to the campsite where we found the other club members who had travelled up on Friday all set up.
We set about quickly setting up out camp before relaxing for the afternoon by swimming, fishing, or in the case of the kids, exploring the surroundings. It was fantastic to see all of the kids present getting on well and looking after each other. I don’t think we actually saw the kids a lot over the weekend as they were having too much fun together.
Sunday came along all too quickly. At 8.00 we headed out to pick up rubbish for our 25thClean Up Australia Day at Ledge Point and by 10.00 we had filled all the bags provided for the clean-up plus a few more provided to us by the Ledge Point Coast Care group. We filled a trailer with the bags and assorted other bulk rubbish and after the usual group photos delivered it to the skip bin that had been provided for us to use at the Blue Loo’s.
After lunch we went for a drive into the South Pacific dunes giving a number of people a thrill by driving over the large drop off at the back of them. Some had never done this type of thing and were both scared at the thought of doing this and amazed at how their vehicle and themselves were able to do it.
After a little play we headed back to camp with a few of us stopping for the obligatory ice cream. Again, the kids seemed to disappear only returning to eat.
Monday morning saw everyone packing up and heading home at their own pace. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped to make this another enjoyable weekend at Ledge Point.
